Competency Area 5: Pesticide Formulations and Labels

PO 36. Be able to explain the difference between a pesticide label and labeling.

The label is the information printed on or attached to the container of a pesticide. It has information about a pesticide’s characteristics, and proper use. But you also need to know that there are other brochures and flyers that have information about the pesticide product. These additional pieces of information are called “Labeling.” Labeling is all the information that you receive from the manufacturer about the product. It includes the label on the product container plus any supplemental information including brochures, leaflets, and information handed out by your dealer or a recognized authority such as a University. Labeling is just as important to you, the user of the pesticide, as the label.
