Competency Area 1: Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
PO 6. Define and distinguish between the following classes of plant response to injury: resistance, tollerance, and sysceptibility.
Resistance: The ability of an organism to withstand or overcome, completely or partially, the effect of a pest or other damaging factor.
Tolerance: The ability of a plant to endure or resist the effects of a disease without dying or suffering serious injury or crop loss. Also, the permissible amount of toxic residue that can be in or on edible plant parts, under the law.
Susceptibility: The inability of a plant to resist the effect of a pathogen or other damaging factor or when a plant is predisposed to, sensitive to, or of lacking the ability to resist the effects of a pathogen.
